I'm Janet Roche, an inclusive designer at the intersection of design, health, and human experience.

I am dedicated to creating environments that foster safety, well-being, and inclusion. With a foundation in media and design and a passion for advocating for vulnerable populations, my work is driven by the belief that thoughtful spaces can transform lives.

As the founder and host of the Inclusive Designers Podcast, I amplify diverse voices, challenge industry norms, and spark critical conversations on accessibility and equity in design. Through the Trauma-informed Design Society (TiDs), I help lead groundbreaking initiatives—like our award-winning K-12 toolkit—that turn research into real-world solutions for more compassionate spaces.

My Approach

Through teaching, mentorship, and collaborative research, I seek to empower future designers to integrate biophilia, environmental health, and inclusivity into their practice. Whether through my design firm, podcast, nonprofit work, or teaching, my mission is to elevate design as a force for resilience, dignity, and transformative change in every built environment!

Endeavors

Through the Trauma-informed Design Society (TiDs), I help lead groundbreaking initiatives—like our award-winning K-12 toolkit—that turn research into real-world solutions for more compassionate spaces. In 2024, I co-authored the Society's first book, Trauma-informed Design: A Framework for Designers, Architects, and Other Practicioners.

The Inclusive Designers’ Podcast is a collaborative forum for designers to share creative ideas for different human conditions. Advocacy, student showcases, and of course design, are all included in these podcasts.

Chronic health conditions and social determinants of health can influence the way a person is treated and how they see themselves. Designing with dignity can positively impact an individual and a community.

Speaking & Mentorship

As a faculty member in the Master of Design Studies in Design for Human Health program at the Boston Architectural College, I educated and mentored the next generation of designers, equipping them with the knowledge to integrate biophilia, environmental health, and trauma-informed principles into their practice. I'm also a keynote speaker and panel moderator.

If the word 'inclusive' in the dictionary included people who represent its meaning, it would have Janet Roche, MDS CAPS at the top of the list! The Boston Architectural College is a better place because of her energy and passion.
